Saturday 14th - A Night in the Park

5.00pm – 9.00pm

The Zinda Festival maybe cancelled but the small capacity of the Makaan will make your launch into diversity week stylish.

5.00pm Jalal Manog & Zamaan Makaan with Awach & Aboul.

Playing a rare combination of instruments, our house band Zamaan Makaan (time & place) mixes lush rhythms with mesmerising beats creating tunes that intoxicate and get you moving.

Jalal Manog brings pop panache and South Sudanese funk to Zamaan Makaan’s savvy musical arrangements.

Dance and ululation with a visit from Awach and Abuol.

6.00pm Karen Bamboo Dancers, Drummers & Percussion.

Karen bamboo dancers, drummers and percussionists break with tradition and combine with Zamaan Makaan to create peak percussion and ensemble dance.  Take a breath, a break and leap into the Makaan for this Karen first.

7.00pm Jalal Manog & Zamaan Makaan with Awach & Aboul.

Jalal, Zamaan Makaan’s, Awach and Abuol return to bring their beats and dance to a new level. Be carried across time and place in their euphoric break away take on ancient traditions and tomorrow’s groove tunes.

8.00pm Dabora Dout & Zamaan Makaan.

Dabora Dout is Bendigo’s biggest celebrity secret.  Zamaan Makaan matches her soulful and uplifting song writing, weaving songs that will have you soaring.

Sunday 15th - Official Launch

12.00pm - 4.00pm

Adventure across the threshold of Punctum’s newest pavilion, the Kultur-all Makaan – a unique and intimate cultural centre celebrating arts and cultural gatherings. You’ll be able to step inside to meet the makers, experience the Makaan’s sublime atmosphere and encounter the constellation of stellar performers and performances.

12.00pm Hazara Embroiders.

Hazara embroiders stitch deft designs from village symbols that hold a richness of life experience in their density. Hear Masooma Qorbani speak of practice and learn why a stitch in time can be profound.

12.30pm Official Opening.

Join us in a special welcome to country and opening by the Honourable Maree Edwards Member for Bendigo West. Meet the community who’ve made it possible and discover what the future of The Kultur-All Makaan can offer. Come for one performance or stay for all.

1.00pm Dabora Dout & Zamaan Makaan.

Dabora Dout is Bendigo’s biggest celebrity secret.  Zamaan Makaan matches her soulful and uplifting song writing, weaving songs that will have you soaring.

2.00pm Fatima Qurbani & Zamaan Makaan.

Fatima Qurbani brings passion and eloquence to a spoken word poem about the mountains that have carved her community.  Layered with the sumptuous peaks and flow of Zaman Makaan’s bass clarinet and hand-held drums. (In Persian and English).

2:30pm South Sudanese Womens’ Choir.

The South Sudanese Women’s Ensemble and Arena Theatre’s Artistic Associate, Access and Inclusion Coordinator, Eliza Hull are welcomed to the Kultur-All Makaan with their stirring melodies and acapella singing.

3.00pm Shreya Tumu, Uncle Paul & Zamaan Makaan.

Combining ancient Southern Indian anthems of hope with cool percussion and shimmering melodic intervals, Shreya Tumu sings with Zamaan Makaan and is joined by Uncle Paul’s virtuosic didgeridoo celebrating and beguiling with song.

Monday 16th - "Architecture is About People”.

11.00am – 2.00pm

Start your week by feasting your eyes on the intimate splendour of the Kultur-All Makaan. Step inside to meet the South Sudanese makers and join a weaving workshop, and stay for a conversation with some of Bendigo’s leading architects to consider how designing can best draw from culture.

When is a basket a sculpture or a structure and what skills and materials get you there?

Mary Anwat is one of Victoria’s great basket weavers and she’s offering a workshop along with Awach, Abuol and Abok to share skills in collective and cultural weaving among the works they’ve begun creating inside the Kultur-All Makaan

3.00pm – 4.00pm Conversation.

If architecture is about people where does design start and who leads the way?

Join some of Bendigo’s leading architects, Kutur-All Makaan designers and makers in an informal conversation to talk about who and what leads the way in responsive design.

Tuesday 17th – Last Gathering. 

11.00am – 5.30pm

Meeting the Karen Makers in the morning and then by sundown new music, dance and compelling rhythms for a fevered last gathering.

11.00am - 1.00pm Meet the Makers.

The fabric woven by Karen weavers is so much more than a traditional textile. In its weaving it reveals cultural structures and connections. Join Karen weavers for a glimpse into their collective weaving practice and try your hand at weaving connections.
